Ball High Boys Basketball team three-peat as District 24-5A champs
with win at Clear Springs

GALVESTON, Texas – Galveston Independent School District is proud to announce the Ball High Boys Basketball team won its third championship in a row in District 24-5A. The team earned the distinction with a decisive 84-76 road win over its rivals, Clear Springs, on Tuesday night. Next up for the Tors is their last game of the regular season in its Purple Reign Day celebration game against Alvin on Friday, Feb. 19 at Ball High gymnasium, starting at 7:00 p.m.

“This is a great accomplishment for our boys team, who have had a memorable year,” said GISD Athletic Director Sandra Howell. “Very few teams ever win three district titles in a row and they should be proud of what they achieved. Congratulations goes out to Coach Jerald Temple and his staff, who worked extremely hard to get the team prepared for every game this season.”
The annual Purple Reign Day is a day to celebrate the Ball High basketball program with dancers, performers and a special parent recognition ceremony, and a senior send-off. Fans in attendance are asked to wear Purple Reign shirts, purple Ball High School shirts or any other purple clothing. Former Ball High coach Jerry Williams will be honored at half-time.
Bi-District Playoffs start next week. Before that happens, the popular High School Sports Live show hosted by Todd Freed on Houston’s Channel 55 invited the Ball High team to appear on the telecast. A great highlight for any program, the show will air this Saturday, Feb. 20 at 5:00 p.m. after any Big 12 basketball game; Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3:00 p.m.; and Monday, Feb. 22 at 8:00 p.m.
Its first playoff opponent, Fort Bend Travis comes into the contest with an 18-9 record. The Tors are at 24-7 (not counting the Alvin game) with just two losses in district play. Ball High looks to make a deep run this season with a team deep with juniors and seniors. This is also the last year for the Tors before the team heads to play in Conference 24-4A after being realigned by the University Interscholastic League earlier this month.
