Arsonist Caught in the Act
Just before midnight last night, a multi-agency effort resulted in the arrest of a suspected serial arsonist.
Matthew Carlyle White, 28, was arrested after setting fire to a house under construction in the 12500 block of Greensbrook in northeast Harris County. The suspect had been the subject of a multi-agency investigation involving a series of fires in Montgomery County and the Kingwood area.
Investigators with the Montgomery County Fire Marshal's Office and Houston Fire Department's Arson division were surveilling White at the time.
"This is the only recent fire he is suspected of having set in Harris County," said Investigator Dean Hensley with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office. "He was arrested back in 2006 in connection with a series of fires set in a similar fashion. We had a joint operation in place at that time also, communicating with HFD Arson and the Montgomery County Fire Marshal."
Investigators from all three agencies are trying to determine how many other fires White may have started.
