Dorothy L. Crooks
Fields-Johnson Family Mortuary

Dorothy L. CrooksDorothy L. Crooks passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at UTMB.

Dorothy was born on the 24th of January 1949, in Huntsville, TX. She was a graduate of Sam Houston High School in 1968. She joined Hill Chapel Baptist Church at a young age and later moved to Galveston and worked for G.I.S.D. for 25 years before she retired.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Herbert, Sr. and Irene Winfrey; son: Roz Winfrey; brother: Herbert Winfrey, Jr.; sisters: Pearlie Mae Issac and Ruby Winfrey Niblett.

She leaves behind to cherish memories, a devoted husband of 44 years, John Crooks, Jr.; son: Daryl Crooks; grandchildren: Sharonda Leigh (Andre), Timniesha Austin (Troy), Larry Champion, Tamika and Joshua Decker; great grandchildren: Sherman Mitchell, Jr., Larry, Jr., Larryda, and Lyrik Champion, Jamal Jefferson, and  Kadence Rogers; sisters: Mary Hall (Cormie), Ola Mae Crooks (Norris), Lou Ella Willis (Charles) , Gladys Oliphant (Robert) all Huntsville, TX; brothers: Charles Winfrey of Houston, TX and Fredrick Winfrey of Huntsville, TX; very close friends: Deloris Archie, Ella Webb, Evelyn Turner and Elizabeth Mitchell and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 6th from 4-7:00 PM. A life celebration service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, July 7, 2012, in the chapel of Fields-Johnson Family Mortuary. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the UTMB staff, Hospice staff, caretaker: Vicki Capri, Dr. Linda Sanchez, Dr. Alawin, friends at St. Vincent for their kind and compassionate care of Dorothy during her illness.
