La Porte City Council on Monday voted unanimously to enter into a $130,788 construction contract with R.W. Lucas Construction LLC for a La Porte Department of Transportation Weigh Station underneath the Hwy 146 Overpass at Barbour’s Cut Boulevard.
“Because of its proximity to the Port of Houston, the area surrounding the intersection of
Highway 146 and Barbours Cut Boulevard consistently experiences very heavy truck traffic,” said City Manager Corby D. Alexander in his recommendation to accept the best of six bids for the project. “A secure commercial vehicle inspection site at this location will allow for the Police Department’s assigned DOT Officers to safely inspect trucks traveling in any direction through the intersection in question and reduce dangerous exposure of officers and truck drivers to traffic while these duties are being performed.”
The city council voted unanimously to table action on a proposed ordinance to prohibit the discharge of firearms within the city limits. Ordinance
