Pasadena City Council on Tuesday voted 5-3, with Onaldo Ybarra, Don Harrison and Pat Van Houte opposed, to appoint former city council member Leroy Stanley to fill the vacant city council position in District E.
A previous motion to appoint Richard Serna to the seat failed on a vote of 3-5, with only Ybarra, Harrison and Van Houte in favor.
Council Member Phil Cayten congratulated Stanley, saying that he had worked with him in the past and noted that Stanley is a “hard worker – worked hard for his district” and that he looks forward to working with him again.
Van Houte commented there were two issues to consider – who to appoint and which set of district lines to use for the appointment. She said that she believed that current district lines rather than the new district lines should be used in making the appointment.
All other agenda items were approved with unanimous votes.
Stanley White, special projects coordinator for the Parks and Recreation Department, accompanied by Parks Director Kirby Cardenas extended thanks to this year’s 4th Fest sponsors: Pasadena Police Department, Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department, Capital Bank, Pasadena Health Center, Landsdowne Moody, Waste Management, Sunbelt, Volunteer Pasadena, Five Hour Energy, Funeraria Del Angel, Wal-Mart and Dairy Queen and presented plaques of appreciation to those sponsors in attendance.
