La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees

The La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday voted 5-1, with Davey Jones opposed, to call a tax ratification election between September 5 and October 5 for a tax increase of $0.13 per $100 valuation to generate enough revenue to offset the need for a reduction salaries for professional staff, including teachers, administrators and the superintendent; and a three-day furlough for all employees. The current tax rate is $1.24 per $100 valuation.

The exact
date for the election has not been set.

The school district also is counting on an anticipated increase of as many as 200 new students to provide additional state revenue to help balance the budget.

The school board voted 5-0-1, with Jones abstaining, to approve the 2012-2013 Compensation Manuel.

There were no other action items on the agenda. All votes were unanimous with Edna Courville absent.  Agenda
