Jefferson County
Beaumont City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, July 24, 2012

Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to suspend the effective date of a rate increase proposed by CenterPoint Energy on natural gas service until November 4.

“This request would increase rates an estimated $8.6 million annually,” City Manager Kyle Hayes said.  “An average residential customer would expect a monthly increase of $4.47 as a result of the increase.”

The city council voted to approve a separate Cost of Services Adjustment, which was also requested by CenterPoint Energy.

The adjustment would result in an increase of $0.62 on residents’ monthly natural gas service bill, $0.82 per month for small general services, and $1.76 per month for large general services.

The city council voted to grant a specific use permit to allow a drinking establishment in a General Commercial –Multiple Family Dwelling District at 3684 College Street, Suite B.

The owner of the property plans to open a comedy club at the location, and would sell alcoholic beverages at the club.  A bar previously operated at the location, but has closed, and a teen club operated in the location for a short time.

The permit was granted on the condition that all code related items must be inspected and approved.

The city council voted to authorize a $40,277 settlement in the claim of Chuck Brocato.  The matter was discussed in executive session during the city council’s meeting on July 17.

The city council voted to award a $70,355 bid to Bruce’s General Construction, Inc. for walking trail and drainage improvements at Halbouty Park at 5780 Gober Road.

The project includes construction of a new 0.46 mile reinforced concrete walking trail and park drainage improvements.

All items were approved.  All votes were unanimous with all members present.  Agenda Packet
