GISD Board of Trustees now accepting candidates for November election
in Districts 1A, 3C and 4D

Community members interested in running for the Board of Trustees have until August 20 to file; packets available at the GISD Support Center located at 3904 Ave. T

 

GALVESTON, Texas The Galveston Independent School District will be holding elections for Board of Trustee for positions 1A, 3C and 4D on November 6, 2012. The first day for candidates to file was Monday, July 23 and the deadline to turn in applications is August 20, 2012 at 5 p.m. at the GISD Support Center (3904 Ave T).

District 1A encompasses an area north of Broadway between 77th Street in the west-end to 9th Street in the east with a section of two blocks south of Broadway between 57th and 38th Streets. The area is currently represented by Trustee Dr. Jeff Temple, who the Board of Trustees recently appointed as a replacement for outgoing President Kelly Chambers.

District 3C is drawn from the area bordered in the west at 61th Street to 37th Street in the east. It contains a portion of Broadway to the north and as far south as Ave. T. The area is represented by Mary Cazares, due to be sworn-in at the July 25 regular board meeting as a replacement for Norman Pappous, now serving on the Galveston City Council.

District 4D goes from the southern half of 61th Street in the west end to 14th Street in the east end. The boundaries follow Seawall Boulevard and go as far north as M ½. The district is represented by Board Secretary Carol Greaney-Wurst, who has served GISD in a public role since 2006. She will be running for her third term in November.
