Carl Newman, A.A. E. Named General Manager for Bush Intercontinental Airport

HOUSTON — Houston Airport System Director of Aviation, Mario C. Diaz, announces the selection of Carl Newman, A.A.E. as the new General Manager for George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Mr. Newman served as the Assistant Aviation Director of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport prior to his appointment by the City of Houston.

“Carl brings more than 30 years of aviation expertise to Houston and I am highly impressed with the accomplishments he achieved for Sky Harbor,” said Diaz. “He has strong leadership experience as an industry-recognized expert in facilities and air-side operations. Houston benefits from his strong background as we continue enhancing the customer experience and create innovations to improve our facility to allow for more international passenger growth.”

Mr. Newman began his career with the City of Phoenix 34 years ago in the Police Department. He joined the aviation industry in 1980 at Sky Harbor and held various leadership positions including Deputy Aviation Director, Facilities Supervisor, Airside Operations Manager before his most recent position of Assistant Airport Director.

Mr. Newman is a board member for American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), the Chair of the Operations, Planning and Safety Subcommittee for AAAE and the Second Vice President of the Southwest Chapter of AAAE. He also served on the board for the Central Arizona Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Aeronautical Science degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
