Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan Seeks Court Order
against Drug Infested Apartment Complex
Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan announced today that his office has filed a lawsuit to protect residents that live in and near Point at the Southwest, a 251-unit apartment complex at 11505 Keegans Ridge Road in Brays Oaks in southwest Houston. The lawsuit claims the complex harbors criminal activity, drug offenses, and robberies. Ryan’s office reports that from May 2010 through April 2012 the Houston Police Department responded to over 300 calls for service at the complex.
Ryan is asking the court to enter an order against 11505 Keegans Ridge Partners, L.L.C., the owner of the complex, to require it to hire additional security guards, install surveillance cameras, screen prospective tenants, improve security lighting, and repair dilapidated fencing and gates.
Ryan and the Brays Oaks, Sharpstown and Spring Branch Management Districts have joined forces to expand the County Attorney’s Community Protection Program aimed at reducing criminal activity through the civil prosecution of enterprises that harbor criminal activity.
Thus far the initiative has closed two after-hours clubs. A hotel, gas station and another after-hours club have agreed to abide by nuisance abatement plans and three more locations are involved in on-going litigation. Ryan recently sued 51 separate owners of a gang-infested condominium complex and was granted an injunction in District Court.
Ryan said, “As Harris County Attorney we are working with the management districts and business owners to close down places that harbor criminals. We are working together to improve the quality of life for Harris County residents.”
