I have a really nice announcement to make. Two associates who worked with Guidry News Service in the very early days of our operation have formed new alliances.
Jim Young, Sr., who was the first managing editor for GNS, and Lora-Marie Bernard, who was one of our first reporters, both rejoined our lineup this week.
Jim Young and I have worked together since the 1970s when we were reporters for KULF Radio in Houston. We worked together again in the office of Houston Mayor Jim McConn. When Lynda and I launched Guidry News Service in 1996 it was natural that Jim and I would work together again. In addition to Jim’s superb writing and editing skills, he honed his digital skills and was instrumental in the redesign of our website, GuidryNews.com.
Since then, Jim continued to enjoy a distinguished career, with service in the office of Houston Mayor Lee Brown, as well as other impressive assignments. Now retired from the City of Houston, he has chosen to work with us again.
Lora-Marie Bernard had been covering news in Galveston for some time when she signed on to cover meetings for Guidry News Service as we launched our first publication, Galveston Fax, which is now Gulf Coast E-news. She is a prolific writer with a deep appreciation and understanding of the workings of governmental bodies and non-profit organizations.
Since her service with GNS, Lora-Marie has served as executive director of environmental and educational non-profits, established her own consulting firm and is pursuing post-baccalaureate graduate work in journalism at Harvard University.
We have been blessed with good associates throughout the years. Please see our Associates page to review our team of committed professionals who help us provide meaningful information to the Gulf Coast Region. Associates
