Happy 224th birthday to Guardians of the Gulf and Heartland
As I reflect upon the Coast Guard's 224th birthday, Aug. 4th, I am reminded that our strongest asset always has been and will remain our people. It is the Coast Guard total work force of Active, Reserve, Civilian, and Auxiliary that together makes a difference in so many lives by ensuring the safety, security, and environmental stewardship of our nation's maritime activities. I am very proud of the Eighth District's contributions to the welfare of the citizens and greater maritime community as we have carried out our duties as "Guardians of the Gulf and Heartland." Happy Birthday to the Coast Guard women and men of the Eighth District!
I am acutely aware that we do not carry out our missions alone. Our families; local, state, and federal partners; the maritime community; and the local communities in which we live, all contribute to our collective success. Thank you ALL for embracing us and allowing us to be the best Coast Guard we can possibly be. The Coast Guard's motto is "Semper Paratus" which means "Always Ready." As the Eighth Coast Guard District begins another year, we pledge to continue to be ready - Always Ready - to meet the maritime needs of the Gulf and Heartland. It remains our honor to serve you.
