Eighth Coast Guard District prepares to assist in hurricane response

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is utilizing assets from the Southwest, Midwest, and Southeast regions to assist with Hurricane Matthew. 

The assets that are standing by to respond at Coast Guard Aviation Training Center in Mobile, Alabama, are:

  • An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston
  • An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans
  • An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi
  • An HC-144 Ocean Sentry surveillance aircraft and aircrew from ATC Mobile
  • Two flood punt teams from Memphis, Tennessee.

The Coast Guard Cutter Cypress from Pensacola, Florida, is currently enroute to provide assistance to effected areas.
