St. Martinville to Plant Bicentennial Oak

The City of St. Martinville is celebrating the Bicentennial of its incorporation this year.  The Opening Celebration takes place tomorrow, January 28, 2017, at Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site from 9am – 5pm.

The actual date of incorporation, however, is January 30, 1817.   The City of St. Martinville, the Bicentennial Committee and the St. Martinville  Garden Club will be commemorating this date, Monday, January 30, 2017 at 10am with the planting of the Bicentennial Oak on the corner of Columbus St. and Madison St. at the entrance to the festival grounds.

The public is invited, and a reception will follow at City Hall.

Special thanks to the Garden Club for the donation of the Bicentennial Oak.   The Bicentennial Time Capsule will also be buried on this site at the closing ceremonies of the Bicentennial in December.

For further info, contact the Tourism Office at 337-394-2233 or at tourism@stmartinville.org or City Hall at 337-394-2230.
