Clear Creek ISD Earns National Recognitions for Budget

The Clear Creek Independent School District has no shortage of schools, staff and students who are recognized regularly on a district, state and national level for their academic success inside and outside the classroom. Another way the District is held accountable is how it spends its money. For the 11th straight year, CCISD has been honored by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States (GFOA) and the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) for its superior financial management and budget practices.

The CCISD Financial Services Department, led by Jeff Kohlenberg, received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the District’s 2015- 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. CCISD is one of only 49 school districts, out of more than 1,200 public and charter schools in Texas, to receive this award. The CCISD Business Services Department, led by Alice Benzaia, received the Meritorious Budget Award for the 2015-2016 Budget document and is one of only 18 school districts to receive this award.

“I am very proud of our financial and business services departments,” said Paul McLarty, deputy superintendent of business and support services. “For the past 11 years, Clear Creek ISD has received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Meritorious Budget Award. These two awards represent the highest level of achievement in financial and budgetary reporting.”

According to the ASBO, school districts who receive these awards have demonstrated excellence in budget presentation through understandable and clear budget guidelines and practices; short-and long-term goals; sound fiscal management practices; and professional growth for the school district’s budget staff. The awards are only given to deserving school districts after a rigorous review by professional auditors review financial statements and analyze every aspect of a district’s budget and planning process.

“These awards affirm that Clear Creek ISD is transparent in its operation and detailed in its approach to financial management,” said McLarty. “The efforts of Jeff Kohlenberg, Alice Benzaia and Executive Assistant Melody Hermes position our District to excel in this arena each year. These recognitions would not be possible without their hard work.”
