by Garrett Bryce
Monday, February 27, 2017

The Port of Beaumont Board of Commissioners today voted unanimously to award a contract to BBVA Compass Bank for bank depository services.

The port’s current contract expires March 1. The contract with BBVA Compass Bank is for a three year term with two years of optional extensions.

The board voted to order the unopposed status of commissioner candidates for Ward 4 and an At-Large position on the board, and to cancel the May 6 election for both positions.

Incumbent Georgine Guillory filed for re-election to Ward 4, while incumbent Louis Broussard filed for the At-Large position he currently holds. Both Guillory and Broussard will be sworn in for new terms in office after the May election takes place.

The board voted to terminate a joint election services agreement with Jefferson County, the City of Beaumont and other governmental entities for the May 6 election. The agreement was terminated as the port has cancelled its election.

All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda

During the meeting, Port Director & CEO Chris Fisher announced that Executive Assistant Peggy Burris has retired from the port after more than 40 years of service. Listen (5:05)
