UPDATE: Coast Guard and local agencies conclude search for missing person

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard concluded the search for a missing hunter after he was located in the vicinity of the Atchafalaya River Basin, Monday.

Local search parties located the man at approximately 7:00 p.m. Officers from St. Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s Office then transported the man to emergency medical services.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans were notified by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 12:58 p.m. that a male hunter was missing from Dog House Camp on the Atchafalaya River.

At the request of Iberia Parish Sherriff’s office the watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.

The survivor was reported to be in stable condition.

Involved in the search were:

·         Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office

·         Mary’s Parish Sheriff’s Office

·         Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries

·         Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans
