Rep. Ron Reynolds Addresses Foul Odors in HD 27
Rep. Ron Reynolds released the following statement today regarding Blue Ridge Landfill Nuisance Order and TCEQ Action:
AUSTIN - "Many individuals and families in my district have been negatively impacted by the foul odors that are routinely emitted from the Blue Ridge Landfill ("BRL") located within the district. There have been many Town-Hall style meetings and other efforts to get to the bottom of what is going on at the landfill."
"I have been working well over a year with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality ("TCEQ"), executives and employees of the landfill, as well as stakeholders in the community who are concerned about the environment, the health of our youth, and property values of their homes."
"To date, the BRL has been investigated and identified by TCEQ as a "major source" contributor to a lowering of the air quality in the surrounding area. In order to begin to correct the situation, TCEQ has offered a proposed Nuisance Order with BRL which will require the landfill to take specific steps in order to remain in compliance with its permit. BRL has until April 8, 2017 to respond to TCEQ's offer of an agreed resolution."
"Although this has been a long and lengthy process and additional work remains to be done, I am happy to report that progress is being made to a final resolution. I will continue to hold TCEQ and the business involved accountable in remedying these foul orders. You can reach TCEQ on this and other environmental quality issues at their Complaint and Enforcement hotline: 1-888-777-3186."
