Friendswood remembers Laura Smither
The Friendswood Police Department Crime Victim Assistance Program will host a remembrance ceremony in honor of Laura Smither on Monday, April 3. That day is the 20th Anniversary of 12-year old Smither’s disappearance while jogging near her Friendswood home. Her body was recovered 17 days later.
The Friendswood ceremony is part of this year’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 2-8. The Crime Victim Assistance Program is inviting everyone to gather on April 3 at 11 a.m. at Stevenson Park to join the “triangle of trust,” formed by family, community and law enforcement.

--Candlelight Vigil at the Texas City Police Department, April 2 at 7 p.m.,
--Blood Drive at the League City Police Department, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.,
--15th Annual Luncheon at the Alvin Senior Center, April 4 at 11 a.m.,
--“Together We Can” Fair at the League City Civic Center, April 5 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.,
--Crime Lab and Sexual Assault Kit Training at the League City Civic Center, April 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and,
--Crime Victims 5K Walk, 45th Street at Seawall Boulevard, Galveston on April 8 at 7:30 a.m.
