TRAFFIC ADVISORY - FIREFIGHTER FUNERAL AT HOUSTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY
On Wednesday, March 15, starting at 8:45am, the City of Houston will honor the life and sacrifice of Captain William "Iron Bill" Dowling at the Morris Cultural Arts Center (Durham Theater) on the campus of Houston Baptist University (7502 Fondren).
In addition to the service, a procession of emergency vehicles and firefighters will begin at Belin & US-59 (I-69) and proceed along the US-59 Access Road and Fondren Drive before entering the campus of HBU.
Expect road closures on US-59(I-69) inbound access road between Beechnut and Fondren, until 9:00am; and on the southbound lanes of Fondren between US-59 (I-69) and Beechnut until the early afternoon.
Traffic traveling north on the US-59(I-69) access road will be forced to enter the freeway before Belin Drive.
Residents in the area will see hundreds of Fire and Law Enforcement vehicles, as well as a low-flying helicopter as part of the procession.
The Houston Police Department (HPD) will be on-site directing traffic, but residents who are not participating in the services should, if possible, avoid the area and find an alternate route.
