Statement from Senator Borris Miles Regarding Senate Bill 6
"Today, the Texas Senate advanced the divisive Senate Bill 6 (SB 6), known as the Bathroom Bill. This discriminatory legislation would have a significant negative effect on Texas' economy, and it would hit Senate District 13 the hardest.
"Our district is in the heart of Houston, home to the convention center, all the major sports stadiums, hotels and many small businesses. Leaders from the business community and the convention and visitors bureaus have all stated that we will lose an estimated $100 million in economic impact. That impact will be felt by all, but working families are going to hurt the most. Conventions bring business and employment opportunities to our district. SB 6 would put those opportunities in jeopardy, which would impact everyone, from our small business owners to those who work in our hotels, transportation and hospitality/restaurant industries.
"SB 6 has major consequences, and I know our district will be negatively impacted if it passes. One of my top priorities has been to bring jobs to my district and SB 6 would do the exact opposite. It's bad for business. It's bad for Texas. And it's bad for Senate District 13. I was proud to vote against this bill and will continue fighting for you."
