Island ETC, East-End Theatre Company
News Release
Thursday, March 16, 2017

NEXT TO NORMAL, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning musical, with music by Tom Kitt and book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey will open at Island ETC (East-End Theatre Company) on Friday, March 17th.  This 'feel everything' rock musical has earned accolades around the world for it tender, insightful, and funny portrayal of a family trying bravely to come to terms with life, love, and loss.

NEXT TO NORMAL is about the seemingly perfect Goodman family.  Their only problem is that sometimes mother Diana seems just a little too happy.  Her husband Dan worries all the time.  Their daughter Natalie is intent on getting a scholarship to Yale and leaving home.  And their son Gabe, well...that's another story entirely.

Director Kim Mytelka has put together an amazing and mind-blowingly talented cast!  This fantastic ensemble consists of Robin Cotton Cobb as Diana, Christopher L. Pool as Dan, Elizabeth Curtin as Natalie, Taelon Stonecipher as Gabe, Justin Gonzalez as Henry (Natalie's classmate), and Brandon Del Castillo as Dr. Madden.

Performances for NEXT TO NORMAL will be March 17th through April 8th.  Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm.  There will be one Sunday matinee on March 26th at 2:30pm.  All performances will be at Island ETC, 2317 Mechanic Street in Galveston.  Tickets for NEXT TO NORMAL are $30.00 for adults and $25.00 for students and senior citizens.  Tickets may be purchased online at  (If interested in group rates for groups of ten or more, please contact the theatre at 409.762.3556.)

"NEXT TO NORMAL is a beautiful piece of theatre.  It may not have the same name recognition as other Broadway musicals, but a show does not win the Pulitzer Prize (2010) or Tony Awards without being seriously amazing," says Mytelka.  "I chose to do this show because I love the music and because the message is one which we all need to be more aware.  Mental illness affects multitudes of families but is kept a deep dark secret.  NEXT TO NORMAL aims to bring this darkness to light."

Due to subject matter and some language, ETC does not recommend our production of NEXT TO NORMAL for children.

For more information about the production, group rates, or ETC, please call the theatre at 409-762-3556.
