Hobby Airport’s 25th Annual HobbyFest Set For April 15
A Day Of Fun For Families, Aviation Enthusiasts And The Hobby Community
William P. Hobby Airport welcomes the community to its 25th annual celebration of the neighborhood, HobbyFest. The 2017 event on April 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is free to the public with the donation of a non-perishable food item that will benefit the Hobby Area Rotary Club. Proceeds from event sponsorships benefit local students in transportation-related fields. Close to $10,000 worth of scholarships will be awarded at the event to deserving students studying in various fields of transportation.
Families are encouraged to attend and enjoy complimentary food - while supplies last - as well as free activities for children like face painting, moonwalks, video game bus, a DJ as well as up-close encounters with vintage and modern aircraft. Boy Scouts can also procure a variety of merit badges at the event. Raffle prizes like round-trip tickets from Southwest Airlines, gift cards and more will also be awarded throughout the day.
HobbyFest is also now host of an officially sanctioned International Bar-B-Que Cookers Association competition, with four categories: Brisket, pork ribs, chicken and desserts. Teams will begin setup April 14, with judging and an awards presentation during HobbyFest on April 15. The all-inclusive entry fee of $200 covers all categories and all proceeds help fund scholarships for local students. Entries for teams are being accepted through early April or until the competition reaches capacity. Interested parties should send contact information to HobbyFestBBQ@gmail.com.
