SEA STAR BASE GALVESTON OFFERS BOATER’S SAFETY CLASS
GALVESTON, TX – Sea Star Base Galveston will offer Texas Boaters Education classes Saturday, April 8,
8 am – 5pm and includes a trip aboard the BaySmart Express for students 13 years and older, aboard the M/V BaySmart Express, 7509 Broadway. Students 13 years and older are eligible to attend the class.
The Texas Boaters Education class is required by Texas education law for all those born after August 31, 1993, who wish to operate personal watercraft, including sailing vessels, of more than 14 feet, and any motor vessel with more than 15 horsepower, and is approved by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The course includes a final exam after which certifications are awarded to passing students. Space is limited, registration is required, and cost is $20 per person.
In partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the hands on class will focus on nautical terminology, safety equipment, rules of the road, legal and moral responsibilities and other important marine topics. Class instructor is Captain Margaret Candler, Director of Programs, including BaySmart, maritime, outreach and scouting, at Sea Star Base Galveston.
