Galveston County Republican Party Rejects Proposed CCISD Bond

Clear Lake, Texas – The Citizens for CCISD PAC congratulates the Galveston County Republican Party for taking a firm stance regarding the upcoming $487M bond election on May 6, 2017.

At the March 20, 2017 Galveston County Republican Party Executive Committee meeting, KC Broyles (Precinct 192 Chair) submitted a resolution rejecting the upcoming bond proposed by the Clear Creek Independent School District (CCISD) based on the conservative principles stated in the 2016 Republican Party of Texas Platform (https://www.texasgop.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/PERM-PLATFORM.pdf).

KC Broyles of the Galveston County Republican Party Executive Committee stated “The GOP executive meeting today passed by overwhelming unanimous consent a resolution for transparency in the CCISD bond.” Mr. Broyles further commented on the tone of the meeting whereby “precinct chairs representing districts within the CCISD were sharing anecdotal evidence of waste and abuse on previous bonds.” Mr. Broyles expressed that the “executive body was emotionally outraged” over the bond issue.

The key paragraph of the resolution stated “BE IT RESOLVED that the Galveston County Republican Party reject the current $487M bond proposal and ask CCISD to postpone the May 6, 2017 bond election and resubmit a more transparent and fiscally accountable bond in November…”

The Citizens for CCISD PAC congratulates the Galveston Republican Party for asking that the proposed May bond election be cancelled and a new bond be voted on in the uniform November general election. It is important that these bond elections be held during elections with the highest number of voters rather than the very low turnout that is traditionally seen in an off-cycle spring election. Citizens for CCISD PAC believes that a proposed $487M increase in debt on top of the existing $857M debt ($367M from the 2013 bond) requires the greatest voter education and participation possible to ensure that the community agrees with the CCISD Board and their consultants regarding the spending of taxpayer funds on education facilities and infrastructure.
