Calling All Entrepreneurs! Galveston County Lemonade Day Kick-Off Events

Galveston County Lemonade DayThe Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce is inviting all students in the region to register to participate in Galveston County Lemonade Day.

National Lemonade Day and Lemonade Day Galveston County is Sunday, May 7, 2017.

Lemonade Day Galveston County is a free program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business - a lemonade stand. Youth of all ages, from pre-K through high school, can participate! Register today at the Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce located at 2228 Mechanic Street in Downtown Galveston. For more information about Lemonade Day Galveston County, please visit Galveston.LemonadeDay.org. 

Youth of all ages, from pre-K through high school, can register to set up an official Lemonade Day stand. Kids must register with a mentoring adult so there are lots of opportunities for mentors and volunteers. In addition, community support from schools, youth organizations, and local businesses, and is essential to the success of Lemonade Day Galveston County.

Once a child is registered they receive a backpack with an informational workbook that outlines the steps needed to start a business: from setting a goal, creating a business plan, forming a budget, finding an investor, to saving money, and donating a portion back to their community. Materials are available in Spanish and English.

GRCC member, Nate Stockard of My Bay Area Community, spoke with Guidry News about the events organized to give children of Galveston County, who live and go to school on the mainland, the opportunity to participate in this highly successful and growing initiative.  Listen: (4:33)

Stockard highlighted kick-off events on March 21 in League City and March 23 in Texas City and encourages kids and parents to attend upcoming events on the mainland at these locations and times: Friday, March 24, 10 am – noon, Odyssey Academy Bay Area Elementary, El Lago; Saturday, March 25, 11 am – 4 pm, and Sunday, March 26, 2 – 4 pm, Clear Lake Shores Lemonade Day Kickoff, 936 Cedar.

GRCC’s Galveston County Lemonade Day committee was established in 2010 as a collaborative program with the business community to foster young entrepreneurs with the common goal to prepare children for business.

The chamber is seeking the help of businesses to provide sites for our 2017 Lemonade Day Galveston County young entrepreneurs lemonade stands. If your business is willing to become an official Lemonade Day Galveston County site, please email Lindsay Touchy at ltouchy@galvestonchamber.com  

Gina Spagnola, Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, and Lemonade Day Galveston County Director, stated, “This year marks the sixth year that the Chamber has produced Lemonade Day and we predict that more than 1,500 students will participate. There are opportunities for mentors, volunteers and sponsors to get involved to let our youth know that we care about them and their future, and to make Lemonade Day Galveston County a success!” 

Everyone is welcome to be involved with Lemonade Day Galveston County. We need mentors, investors, employees, and customers to support participants! Sponsors and volunteers are also needed to make Lemonade Day a success! All money raised through local donations and sponsorships directly support Lemonade Day Galveston County.

Lemonade Day provides kids the opportunity to learn skills through an informational workbook that outlines the steps needed to start a business.  At registration, each child is given a backpack that is supplied with a step by step curriculum guide that includes instructions on setting a goal, creating a business plan, developing a budget, finding an investor, saving money, and donating back to the community.

An educational and inspiring program, included in Lemonade Day activities are building a lemonade stand, selling lemonade, lemonade tasting contest, and Spirit Awards at the end. Sponsors are needed and all Lemonade Day sponsorship investments are used directly to support Lemonade Day Galveston County.
