Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to adopt a resolution opposing Senate Bill 2, legislation proposed by the Texas Legislature to reduce the “rollback” tax rate from 8 percent to 5 percent.

The legislation also implements a mandatory election on any increase exceeding 5 percent.

The city council voted to approve a grant contract with the Office of the Attorney General and the Beaumont Police Department.

The city council voted to grant a specific use permit for a home-based childcare facility in a Residential-Single Family District at 675 Alma Street.

The city council voted to grant a specific use permit for an office/warehouse with outdoor storage in a General Commercial District located at 1175 Reynolds Road.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Council Member Gethrel Williams-Wright absent. Agenda
