Galveston ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Friday, March 31, 2017

The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted 4-1-1, with Ken Jencks opposed and Matthew Hay abstaining, to leave the District 6F Trustee position vacant until the November election.

The seat was previously held by Beau Rawlins, who left vacated his seat on the board. The board interviewed several candidates for a possible appointment to fill the vacancy, but chose instead to leave the seat vacant.

The board voted unanimously to apply for a modified schedule/state assessment testing day waiver for Ball High School. The waiver allows the district to modify the schedule of classes for students who are not being tested to report before and after the state assessment period has ended.

The board voted unanimously to approve a professional services agreement, in an amount not to exceed $75,000, with The Flippen Group for training, including Coaching Greatness and Capturing Kids Hearts.

The board voted unanimously to approve a $30 per month tuition increase in Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 programs for those who do not qualify for free Pre-K program services.

All other action items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present, with the District 6F seat vacant. Agenda
