Free Live Theater and Festival Come to Burroughs Park
Harris County Precinct 4 invites the public to attend a free Shakespeare festival featuring crafts, entertainers, face painting, games, and food trucks Saturday, April 22 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burroughs Park, located at 9738 Hufsmith Road in Tomball, 77375.
Performances of Shakespeare’s All's Well That Ends Well take place rain or shine Friday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m.
In this family-friendly adaptation of the classic play, minor noblewoman Helena fears her love of young Count Bertram will be forever unrequited. When Bertram heads to France to aid the ailing king, Helena follows, determined to win his love. Prepare for laughs and plenty of twists in this exciting comedy.
Attendees will be able to take photos and visit with Shakespeare as he roams the park. A photo booth with costumes will also be available.
“We went all out this year on activities and entertainment to please Shakespeare lovers of all ages and introduce a new generation to the Bard,” said Commissioner R. Jack Cagle. “My staff and I worked hard to make this event something every generation could appreciate while staying true to Shakespeare’s vision.”
Returning this year is Jim Mackenzie – Comedian with Mad Skills. Mackenzie specializes in juggling, sword swallowing, whip cracking, rope and pole walking, unicycling, music looping, straight jacket escape, and more. Costumes are encouraged. Theater-style seating will be available under the covered pavilion at Burroughs Park on a first-come, first-served basis. Everyone is invited to bring their own refreshments or purchase items from the food trucks during the festival.
Established in 2013, Precinct 4’s Shakespeare in the Shade presentations are part of Commissioner R. Jack Cagle’s educational and recreational commitment to Harris County residents. Precinct 4’s programs serve people of all ages, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, national origin, or physical ability.
