Art March Parade at CenterFest Joins Artistic Expression with Shoes

Lake Jackson, Texas – Imagine the Houston Art Car parade, but substitute shoes for cars and you get the Art March Parade at The Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences (The Center) ‘CenterFest’. CenterFest is a full re-imagining of The Center’s annual spring art fair that occurs May 6 and 7, 2017 at The Center. Art March Parade chairperson Roxanne Strobel explains the guidelines for the new event on another CenterFest Podcast which can be heard by following this link:

CenterFest organizers chose to create the Art March Parade as something for the non-runner to participate in that did not require a lot of physical exertion. “We will be serving doughnuts starting at 7:45 a.m. for early rising, non-runners,” she said.

Art & Charity

The Art March is a fun way to start CenterFest on Saturday May 6 at 8:00 a.m. Art Marchers will meet behind the Center, near the place and time where the Run For The Arts begins. “We wanted to create something for the non-runner that allowed for creativity, fun, charity and had prizes included,” Roxanne told her listeners. “At the same time, we wanted to find a way for participants to give back and did with the shoe donation for school aged children.”

Two Day Pass

There is no fee for participating, though participants are asked to bring a pair of new shoes that will be suitable for school age youngsters. “We are really focused on trying to get shoes for children in the 3rd and 4th grade,” Roxanne said. “The donations are coordinated by the Dream Center who tell us that these are the ages where there is the most need.” Those who bring a pair of shoes to the Art March Parade will receive a pass for both days of CenterFest. “It is a very good deal for participants and local school children who will need shoes to start the school year,” Strobel said.

Hot Glue, Sequins, etc.

There are no limits or creative rules for the parade, though the rules for the event state that the “winner will be judged on a variety of criteria including creativity. “There are lots of places on line where you can find examples and inspiration,” Roxanne said. “I’m doing something with high topped tennis shoes and another with something more formal,” she concluded.
