Statement: San Luis Shooting, Reward Offered for Info

On Sunday, April 9th 2017 at approximately 10:15pm a witness observed several subjects who appeared to be breaking into vehicles in the north parking lot of the San Luis Hotel & Resort on Seawall Blvd.

Philip Molis, a hotel employee responded to investigate and subsequently observed three black males near a vehicle and attempted to make contact with them. Upon contact, the suspects immediately fired multiple shots at Molis, striking him several times. LT Thomas Bushek of the Randall County Sheriff’s Office was attending a conference at the San Luis, and happened to be outside of the hotel when he heard the shots. LT Bushek responded, found Molis bleeding from several gunshot wounds and began treating him. Officer Pike from the Bayou Vista Police Department was the second person on scene, and began requesting units and rescue via his radio. Galveston Police Officers arrived less than a minute later and began assisting with Molis’ treatment until Galveston EMS made the scene and immediately transported him to UTMB where he was rushed into surgery.

Officers with the Galveston Police Department, Galveston County Sherriff’s Office and Texas DPS, K9 Units from the Texas City Police Department, La Marque Police Department, and UTMB Police Department, and an air unit from the Houston Police Department all responded to begin searching for at least three suspects, described only as black males, with at least one wearing a hoodie sweatshirt.

During the search, Officers located a subject attempting to conceal himself near the crime scene and identified him as 21 year old Tyrone Davis Haynes. It is believed at this time that Tyrone was involved in the shooting; however, we are still searching for at least two other suspects. Tyrone is from the Missouri City area and has been identified as belonging to a criminal street gang known as the “Gorilla Mob 187”. We believe that the other subjects involved in the shooting may also belong to this gang and may be from the same area. After a thorough search of the crime scene and the surrounding parking lot, Galveston PD investigators were able to locate over 10 vehicles that had been burglarized before someone called in to report it.

As of this time, several community sources have rallied to raise a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of other suspects in this case. The Galveston Police Department is asking anyone that may have any information concerning the shooting to contact the Galveston Police Tip Line at 409-765-3762, or Crimestoppers at 409-763-8477.
