Friday, April 21, 2017

The Galveston Independent School District Board of Trustees on Wednesday voted unanimously to adopt adjusted salary schedules for the 2017-2018 school year, resulting in approximately $1,307,000 million in salary and wage increases.

The salary schedule includes an increase in base salaries for first-year teachers from $47,500 to $49,000 per year. Other salaries for teaching staff will also be adjusted for the salary matrix, with staff members receiving a minimum of $1,200 per year in additional pay. Other administrative staff will receive a 2 percent increase, and hourly workers will receive a $0.50 per hour increase.

The wage increase totals $607,000 for teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses, with $236,000 for other salary adjustments, $150,000 for the administrative increase, and $313,000 to implement the hourly wage increases, resulting in the approximately $1.3 million total.

The board voted to approve a motion to change two grades for a student's four-day assignment from a 0 and a 33 to be marked as incomplete, in relation to a Level 3 Appeal Hearing, as discussed in closed session. No other motions were made on the item.

The board voted to extend the district's depository contract with Prosperity Bank, under the same terms and conditions of the current agreement.

The board voted to award a contract to Challenge Office Products for office supplies, classroom consumables and furniture, in an approximate amount of $275,000.

The board voted to adopt and implement a voluntary desegregation plan under the Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant.

All action items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present, with the exception of the vacant District 6F seat. Agenda
