News Release
Friday, April 21, 2017

Port Arthur, Texas - The Port Arthur Fire Department continues to work with German Pellets Texas, LLC and Texas Pellets, Inc. (collectively GPTX) to extinguish the burn. The safest way to manage this type of smoldering is to contain it using the facility's suppression system until the wood pellets can be safely removed from the silo. GPTX is on site with experts assessing the situation, and anticipate that it could be several weeks or more before the incident is completely resolved.

The wood pellets are not harmful to the environment, humans or pets. GPTX is working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to continuously monitor the air quality near the silo and in the surrounding community.

GPTX has set up a dedicated help line to respond to all inquiries regarding this incident. If you have any additional questions, please call our dedicated help line at (409) 200-3313. GPTX will continue to provide key updates as information becomes available.
