Update: Coast Guard responds to capsized vessel 

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard has suspended its search for possible people in the water in relation to a capsized vessel approximately 161 miles south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana, Sunday.

An HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama, located the vessel Saturday and searched a total of approximately 625-square-nautical miles for over six-and-a-half hours with no signs of people in distress in the water.

The crew of a good Samaritan vessel assisted in the search.


Coast Guard responds to capsized vessel

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to the report of a capsized vessel approximately 161 miles south of Southwest Pass, Louisiana, Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at approximately 12 p.m. of the capsized vessel.

The vessel is approximately 15 to 20 feet long with a white hull and an outboard engine.

Sector New Orleans watchstanders directed the launch of an HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile to search for possible people in the water.
