by Garrett Bryce
Monday, May 01, 2017

Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to approve agreements with Newton County and the City of Newton for crime lab services through the Jefferson County Crime Lab.

The county’s crime laboratory will provide services, with the Newton paying for an actual cost basis for personnel and supplies used per case for crime scenes and the standard fee for drug cases.

The commissioners court voted 4-1, with Everette “Bo” Alfred opposed, to approve lease agreements with Glow Investment, Inc. for the development of airport property. There were six leases related to the agreement with Glow investment.

The commissioners court tabled action regarding a lease agreement with Al Judice, doing business as Judice’s Restaurant, for the development of airport property.

The commissioners court voted 3-2, with Judge Jeff Branick and Eddie Arnold opposed, to approve a budget transfer request by Constable Precinct No. 6 for additional costs for help. The request totaled $17,000.

Branick said that he could not support the item as other constable precincts were serving more papers per deputy than Precinct No. 6.

“I just don’t see where extra help is needed, because they’re still 300 papers per deputy less,” Branick said. Listen (39:51)
