Pasadena City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to amend, on final reading, a contract with Gensler Agreements for a space study at 1211 Southmore, for an additional $73,000.

The contract is for items related to moving the municipal court to the current City Hall building, which is to be remodeled. City Hall is being relocated to a new building.

Council Member Sammy Casados discussed the item and issues with contracts lacking end dates.

“There's work being done in two or three different places at one time, and it's real hard to track where money's being spent and how it's being spent,” Casados said. Listen (4:09)

Casados said he would support the item, but asked to place an end date on the contract, and for the city to put end dates in place on future contracts.

Council Member Darrell Morrison noted his agreement with Casados.

Mayor Johnny Isbell stated that any delays would result in more costs, due to the city leasing the current space at a rate of $20,000 per month, he said.

The city council voted unanimously to approve progress payments on contract underway in the city, including:

  • $169,919 to D & W Contractors, Inc. for the 2016 Witter Street Replacement Project
  • $348,433 to Mar-Con Services, LLC for the 2015 Annual Storm Sewer and Pavement Project
  • $132,507 to Nerie Construction, LLC for the 2016 Citywide Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Program Phase I
  • Payments of $12,540 and $150,200 to RAC Industries, LLC for the 2017 On Call Paving & Drainage Improvements Project

The city council voted unanimously to approve payment of miscellaneous claims and invoices, with Cary Bass abstaining on items related to Bass & Meineke.

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on final reading, award of an $89,322 contract to Construction Masters of Houston, Inc. for asbestos abatement and demolition at 1211 Southmore Avenue.

The city council voted unanimously to approve, on final reading, award of an $84,435 contract to Construction Masters of Houston for foundation repair, leveling and installation of a root barrier at 1211 Southmore Avenue.

Both items were amended to include terms for the contracts.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize the Pasadena Recreation Department to seek funding from MD Anderson to fund recreation programming and an Exercise is Medicine program.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize an application for $156,998 in funds through the Texas Automobile Burglary and Theft Prevention Authority.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Council Member Ornaldo Ybarra was absent. Agenda
