Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to adopt a resolution in support of the construction of a new natural gas power plant in Montgomery County.

The resolution supports an application filed by Entergy to the Public Utilities Commission to construct the new Montgomery County Power Station at Lewis Creek near Willis, Texas.

“The construction of the new Montgomery County Power Station will be a boon for local economy and generate $1 billion in economic activity across Texas, resulting in a $410 million direct investment in the local area and generate $307 million in worker savings and support 7,000 jobs directly and indirectly,” stated the resolution. The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve recommendations by Spectra Venue Management for capital improvements at the Ford Park Entertainment Complex for marketing, catering and point of sale.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to grant a 30 day extension of the lease of the Jefferson County Downtown Jail Facility with LaSalle Southwest Corrections. The contract will now expire on July 23.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to award a contract to The Lamar Companies for billboards for the Jefferson County Emergency Management Department. The contract is for a rate of $3,000 per month, beginning May 15 and ending October 1.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt an order appointing Fred L. Jackson as criminal associate judge for the county. However, the item was also rescinded effective today. Jackson was appointed four a period of four days. Listen (21:20)

The commissioners court voted 4-1, with Everette “Bo” Alfred opposed, to approve a retail development land lease agreement with Glow Investment, Inc. for development at the airport property. The agreement was for Phase 7, which includes development of a restaurant.

The commissioners court voted 4-1, with Alfred opposed, to approve a retail development land lease agreement with Glow Investment, inc. for development of retail pads at the airport property, which is Phase 8 of the development.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present. Agenda
