Brazoria County Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted 4-1, with County Judge Matt Sebesta opposed, to extend the fireworks sales period to include the Memorial Day holiday.

The order allows fireworks sales to the public beginning the Wednesday before the last Monday in May, and ending that same Monday.

The order will be suspended anytime the county puts a burn ban in place.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to authorize a one-time payment of $25,000 to the Gulf Coast Emergency Rescue Squad to replace an airboat motor.

The rescue squad assists the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office during water searches and rescues.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a proclamation declaring May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. Proclamation

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a proclamation declaring May 14-20 as National Police Week. Proclamation

The commissioners court voted unanimously to adopt a proclamation declaring May as Older Americans Month. Proclamation

The commissioners court voted unanimously to grant permission to use the Brazoria County Courthouse grounds for a Memorial Day event on May 29.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to reject an offer of $1,000 for tax foreclosed property at 8th Street in Freeport.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to reject an offer of $3,000 for tax foreclosed property at 1312 West Lobitt in Alvin.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to award a managing depository bank and sub-depository bank contract to First National Bank of Lake Jackson.

The commissioners court met in executive session to discuss potential litigation, the potential purchase of property and personnel matters. No action was taken on any items discussed in closed session.
