FREEPORT, Texas – Incumbents John Hoss and Shane Pirtle will retain their seats on the Port Freeport Commission. Commissioners serve six-year terms.

Commissioner John Hoss ran unopposed for Position 2, Pct. 1.  Hoss, a native of Freeport, was first elected to the Port Commission in 2011.  He has spent the majority of his life in and around the maritime industry and is a principle in Freeport Launch, L.P.  He has supported many projects for the Port and looks forward to coming expansion while serving his second term.  He and his wife Felicia are strong advocates of public service.

Incumbent Shane Pirtle, was also first elected in 2011 and will continue to serve in Position 1, Pct. 1- at large, after defeating his opponent in Saturday’s election.  He is looking forward to the opportunity to continue working with the Port Commission, the Corps of Engineers and elected officials on the Freeport Harbor Channel Improvement Project. 

Pirtle, a registered Professional Engineer, retired from The Dow Chemical Company after 30 years of service. He is an active member of the Brazosport Community and is a board member of several civic organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Brazoria County.  He and his wife Linda have three children and six grandchildren.

Port Freeport Commission Chairman Ravi Singhania stated “I extend my congratulations to Commissioners Hoss and Pirtle.  There are projects and many opportunities taking place at our Port, and I am pleased to continue the work with both Commissioners.” 

Port Freeport is ranked 10th in chemicals and 26th in containers. The Channel serves Dow Chemical, Phillips 66, BASF, Tenaris, Vulcan Material, Mammoet, Freeport Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG), American Rice, Dole, Chiquita, Seaway, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Hoegh Autoliners.
