Friendswood Astronaut is Memorial Day Ceremony speaker

Terry Virts is this year’s featured speaker at the Friendswood Memorial Day Ceremony, Monday, May 29. The retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and former NASA Astronaut has been in orbit as a Space Shuttle pilot and International Space Station Commander.

The Ceremony, which begins at 10 a.m., will be held at the Veteran’s Memorial next to City Hall (910 S. Friendswood Drive). It includes patriotic music, a tribute to each branch of the military, and following the Ceremony, a group photograph of Friendswood military veterans and active duty personnel.

Everyone is invited. Please bring your own lawn chairs. For additional information, call the City of Friendswood Parks and Recreation Department at 281- 996-3220.

Former Astronaut, retired Air Force Colonel, and Friendswood resident Terry Virts is this year’s Memorial Day Ceremony keynote speaker.

A moving part of the annual Friendswood Memorial Day Ceremony is a bagpiper performance.

Friendswood Mayor Kevin Holland leads the Memorial Day Ceremony, honoring all veterans and active military members, and their families, in attendance.

In what has become a City of Friendswood tradition, any attendees of the Memorial Day Ceremony who have served or are currently serving in any branch of the Armed Services gather for a group photograph.
