Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to accept a $4.5 million National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Grant for the construction of two siphons to provide freshwater inflows for the Salt Bayou Watershed.

A $1.2 million match will be contributed to the grant through settlement funds related to the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.

The commissioners court voted to apply for a COPS Hiring Program Grant for Constable Precinct 4.

The grant will provide 75 percent of funding for a deputy constable position to work as a school resource officer for Hamshire Fannett Independent School District. All costs not covered by the grant will be paid by the school district.

The commissioners court voted to adopt a resolution in support of the Downtown Beaumont Cultural Arts District. Resolution

The commissioners court voted to approve a recommendation from the Jefferson County Tourism Committee to grant a request for $75,000 in hotel occupancy tax funds for Ford Park Spectra promotion and marketing.

The commissioners court voted to extend the time for preparation of the Ford Park operating budget for FY2018.
