The Hitchcock City Commission on Monday voted unanimously to accept the city's FY2016 audit.

Whitley Penn, the firm that conducted the independent audit of the city's finances, issued a clean, or unmodified, opinion of the city's financial statements, which is the highest level assurance that the financial statements accurately reflected the status of the city for FY2016.

The city commission voted to reappoint Randy Strickling as mayor pro tem.

The city commission voted to appoint Dorothy Childress to the Planning and Zoning Board to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Brenda Jo Windham.

During a special meeting held prior to Monday's regular meeting, the city commission voted unanimously to canvass the results of the May 6 election.

Mayor Anthony Matranga and Commissioner Fard Abdullah were sworn in for another term in their offices, while Monica Cantrell was sworn in as the newly-elected commissioner for District 2.

During the regular meeting, former Commissioner Lee Sander was presented a plaque in recognition of his service.
