Jamaica Beach City Council on Monday voted 3-1-1, with David Welch opposed and Gene Montgomery abstaining, to approve the condemnation of construction and maintenance easements of beachfront properties that have not signed agreements required by the Texas General Land Office and necessary for the GLO to proceed with a beach dune restoration project.

The city council voted 4-0-1, with Montgomery abstaining, to approve an engagement letter with Michelle Morris with the Rogers, Morris and Grover Law Firm for legal services associated with the condemnation process, and delegating the city administrator as the contracting officer.

The city council voted unanimously to canvass the results of the May 6 election. Mayor Steve Spicer and Council Member Rosemary Lindley were sworn in for another term, and David Welch was sworn in as a newly-elected council member.

The city council voted unanimously to reappoint Gene Montgomery as mayor pro tem.

The city council voted unanimously to accept a proposal from Cahoon Consulting for the community rating system application.

The city council tabled action regarding the payment of funds to USA Pool Management for contract fees beginning September 2016 to June 2017.
