Free hurricane preparedness meetings

Hurricane season is from June 1 to November 30. It is important to be prepared by making family plans, maintaining an emergency preparedness kit, and determining where you would evacuate to, if necessary.

Two free public hurricane presentations are available at the Friendswood Library (416 South Friendswood Dr.): June 1 at 10 a.m. and June 5 at 6:30 p.m.

The Office of Emergency Management will show ways to be prepared for hurricanes. Topics include: Saffir-Simpson Scale, storm surge, local watersheds, hurricane evacuation plans, emergency preparedness kits, and staying informed.

Ike, in 2008, is the most recent hurricane to come through Friendswood. For new information about hurricane preparation, attend a free public meeting at the Friendswood Library on June 1 at 10 a.m., or June 5 at 6:30 p.m.
