Cmr. George P. Bush to join Galveston officials to commemorate
beach expansion project completion

Ribbon cutting event to take place Thursday at 57th and Seawall

GALVESTON - On Thursday, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will visit Galveston to give remarks at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of a $19.5 million beach expansion project that placed nearly one million cubic yards of sand on the beach between 10th and 61st streets. The project began in January and was completed in April. The Texas General Land Office was the principal partner in the project along with the Galveston Park Board, City of Galveston and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. For details on the project visit

State and city officials will speak about the project and the importance of coastal resiliency. Officials expected to be in attendance include:

  • State Rep. Wayne Faircloth

  • Representatives from the Galveston Park Board and City of Galveston
