Remembering Jim Guidry Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
Galveston County
Texas City City Commission
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, May 18, 2017

The Texas City City Commission on Wednesday voted unanimously to authorize an application to the Texas Department of Transportation for funding for pedestrian and bike trail projects.

The city will seek funds through TxDOT's Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program for extending an off-street trail along Bay Street and enlarging an existing trail at the north side of Bay Street Park.

The two projects are estimated to total $394,000 in cost. The Goodman Corporation, which has been working with the city to identify transportation-related projects and needs, recommended the city commit matching funds of $82,631.

The city commission voted to award annual contracts to Life Assist, Inc. and NAO Global Health, LLC for emergency pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and equipment annual contract.

The city commission voted to approve a recommendation to reject responses for requests for qualifications for the Bay Street and Dike Road property.

The city had sought qualifications for the development of the property as a vacation RV park and commercial center. However, staff members stated that the responses did not meet with the desired look and neither provided a commercial aspect that would be critical.

The city commission voted to designate a reinvestment zone, to be known as the Texas City Gulf Coast Reinvestment Zone No. 1, in order to provide commercial-industrial tax abatement.

The zone would be in the industrial complex near the docks, that is currently not developed.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda
