ACC to Offer Classes in Shadow Creek, UHCL-Pearland

Those seeking a college education will have a larger selection of Alvin Community College locations to take courses starting in the fall. ACC classes will be available at Alvin ISD Shadow Creek High School and the University of Houston-Clear Lake Pearland campus.

Registration for the fall semester is now open. Classes will begin on August 21.

“We are very excited to be able to offer classes convenient to Pearland residents in two locations,” Albrecht said. “Both of these locations will bring higher education closer to those in our taxing district and service area. We will start with select offerings at both locations and work to build in more variety in the years to follow. The partnerships with Alvin Independent School District and University of Houston Clear Lake are very rewarding and offer win-win educational opportunities for our communities.”

The classes are part of the Core Curriculum and are transferrable to other public colleges and universities in Texas.

ACC will offer several evening classes at Shadow Creek High School, which opened this school year.

Alvin ISD Superintendent Dr. Buck Gilcrease said the partnership with the college will help students on the west portion of its district.

"Alvin ISD is appreciative of our partnership with Alvin Community College,” he said. “As we look toward the future, our growing partnership will provide expanded opportunities that will benefit our students and community."

The courses available in the fall at Shadow Creek are: Art Appreciation, Anatomy and Physioloy, Composition I and II, Public Speaking, Sociology and U.S. History I.

UH-Clear Lake President Dr. William A. Staples said partnering with ACC benefits students who are pursuing their Bachelor’s Degree.

"We are excited about partnering with Alvin Community College as they offer classes at UHCL Pearland Campus this fall,” Staples said. “We have a long-standing relationship with ACC who has partnered with UHCL since we opened our doors in 1974, and we look forward to enhancing our partnership even further to expand student access to higher education.”

The courses at the Pearland campus offered in the day and evenings include: College Algebra, Composition I and II, Federal Government, Principles of Macroeconomic, General Psychology and United States History I and II.

Shadow Creek High School is located at 11850 Broadway Street in Pearland. The UHCL-Pearland campus is located at 1200 Pearland Parkway in Pearland.
