H-GAC Seeks Public Input for State Highway 146 Study

BAYTOWN, TX – The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) invites local citizens, community leaders, business owners, and elected officials to attend a public meeting regarding the State Highway 146 (SH 146) Subregional Study on June 6 at Living Hope Church, 7611 Highway 146 in Baytown from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

SH 146 is a regional corridor that serves as a major north-south thoroughfare, a freight corridor, and a hurricane evacuation route. The area surrounding SH 146 is a rapidly growing part of the greater Houston-Galveston region in terms of population, employment, and freight traffic.  To accommodate this growth, the Cities of Baytown and Mont Belvieu, the Texas Department of Transportation, and H-GAC established a partnership to collaboratively examine current and future mobility needs.

The purpose of the SH 146 Study is to produce a mobility plan that identifies actionable recommendations to improve mobility and access to jobs, homes, and services in the study area. The year-long study will analyze current and future population, employment, and economic development conditions.

Input from the public meeting will help identify existing mobility issues in the study area.  The meeting will begin with a brief presentation followed by a public input session.  English and Spanish speakers will be available to gather input and answer questions.

H-GAC will provide for reasonable accommodations for persons attending H-GAC functions.  Requests from persons needing special accommodations should be received by H-GAC staff 24 hours prior to a function.  The public meeting will be conducted in English with Spanish translators available.  Requests for additional language interpreters or other special communication needs should be made at least two working days prior to a function.  Please call 713.993.2471 for assistance.

Comments from the public may also be emailed to or submitted via telephone by calling toll free at 1.855.363.2516 or mailed to Transportation Public Information, Houston-Galveston Area Council, P.O. Box 22777, Houston, TX 77227-2777.
