St. Martinville Bicentennial Independence Day Extravaganza

It’s a fun-filled outdoor evening for the entire family, children and adults alike as St. Martinville kicks off its Bicentennial Independence Day Extravaganza on July 1, 2017 at Magnolia Park on the banks of the Bayou Teche from 4-10pm, free of charge.  

Join us for the flag raising at 4pm, followed by multiple children`s activities.   Beginning at 4:30pm, dress your children 0 – 6 years of age (boys and girls) in red, white and blue to take part in the Independence Baby Bicentennial Contest.  Children 4-12 years old are invited to decorate their bikes in red, white and blue for the bike decorating contest.

The 4 categories for the Baby Contest are: Baby, 0-11mos. Beginning at 4pm, Toddler, 12-23 mos. at 4:30pm, Petite, 2-4 yrs at 5pm and Little, 5-6 yrs at 5:30pm.  Registration is $10 and available at City Hall or at the park 30 minutes in advance of appropriate group.   1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded, and everyone will receive a certificate of participation.

The bike decorating contest is free of charge.  Young folks will compete in three different age groups (4-6, 7-9 and 10-12), and prizes will be awarded.

Register in advance or 30 minutes in advance of the individual competitions.   Applications can be picked up at City or on our Facebook page (St. Martinville Bicentennial) or call 1-337-394-2230 or 2233.   

At 5:30pm, Saint Martinville Senior High students will read the Declaration of Independence, followed by canoe races on Bayou Teche among local organizations and other fun activities for adults and children.   A DJ kicks off the musical entertainment after the reading of the Declaration.

Finally, bring your blanket and dancing shoes and enjoy the sounds of Louisiana Red from 7 to 10pm and watch a 15+ minute fireworks show after sundown. 

Come early and check out or 20+ businesses on Main Street decorated for our Bicentennial and the 4th of July!!  St. Martinville Garden Club will be judging for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes. 

The Bicentennial Committee will be selling t-shirts and pins.   Food, beer and other beverages will be available for purchase.   Hot dogs and hamburgers, boudin, shrimp boats, turkey legs, red beans and boudin will be available for purchase, as well as snow balls, nachos and funnel cakes.  Craft vendors are welcome.  Booths are available for $45, and vendors are asked to contact Christi Disher at 337.839.2874 for further info.
