Harris County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to extend the local State of Disaster Declaration imposed in light of Hurricane Harvey to September 26. Listen (1:34)

Commissioner Steve Radack suggested the declaration remain effective until at least the next commissioners court meeting.

Commissioner Jack Morman said Precinct 2 “has just been swamped with debris” and requested additional trucks for removal.

“We need as many as we can get,” said Morman.

Commissioner R. Jack Cagle expressed his appreciation for the mobilization initiatives based on performance.

“Let’s just hope they continue,” said Cagle.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to reappoint J. Kent Friedman as Chair of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority for a term ending August 31, 2019.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement between the county and the City of Shoreacres to provide debris removal services.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to appoint the following individuals to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund Advisory Board:

  • Mike Ballases
  • William Taylor
  • Hattie Miranda
  • Janiece M. Longoria
  • George W. Strake, III

The commissioners court voted 4-0-1, with Radack abstaining, to approve sole source and professional services exemptions from the competitive bid requirements for Phonoscope, Inc.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to recognize September as Library Card Sign-Up and Literacy Month.

All other agenda items, with minor exceptions, were approved unanimously with all members present. Agenda
